Sutisana

"Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,    but whoever hates correction is stupid."
Proverbs 12:1

Last weekend I went to La Paz, the government capitol of Bolivia, for a Christian Counseling Conference.  I can't even describe how good it was for my soul to go.  I got to do something I love: learning with a format to help myself and others.  On top of that it was in English.  It has been so long since I have had anything in my native language.  I found it very refreshing.
More than just the conference we utilized our time very well.  I got to explore the city which is magnificent and way to large for a country girl like myself.  We went to the English Speaking Christian School and a ministry visit to Sutisana.  Sutisana is a ministry that helps women to get out of prostitution and discover a new way to support themselves and more importantly to know God.  While I was there I made a new friend in "S".  She taught me how to make a purse.  A practical skill set in a third world country.  I had to explain to her that in the States we usually focus more on book learning and computers.

I have learned to except that I am like a child here.  I now find joy in allowing others teach me new things.  I enjoyed helping "S" make the purse and teach me how to use a sewing machine.  When I was a child my mom tried, but I was not patient, so I only learned how to mend by hand.  Now, I don't even use that.  It brought such joy to my heart that day to spend time with those beautiful women.  Another woman made a shirt that they are possibly prototyping.  I bought it right off the rack.
If anyone is interested in learning more or supporting this ministry go to www.sutisana.com.  They can mail products to the States.  Just remember, one person only can make five good quality purses a day.  They also make bookbags, coin purses, shopping bags, and other similarly useful products.
