I was invited a few weeks ago to go to Oruro and Uyuni by a missionary friend from Switzerland. Her name is Sandra. Her friend has lived in Mexico for six months and she wanted to introduce him to her friends. His name is Christoph. He is from Switzerland too. I wanted to go, but I didn't want to have to meet and figure out the buses along in Oruro. She had already been traveling. So, I invited an SIM missionary to come with me. Her name is Christina. We were only in Oruro for a few hours, but Sandra has a missionary friend from her organization that lives there. That woman made us lunch and showed us around her city. Then, when we returned this morning around 1am, we slept at her house until about 6am when we went to get a bus to Cochabamba.
In Uyuni we got a tour guide that drives us around the territory which is huge for three days. They drive SUVs and sits six people comfortably. So, two French girls traveling around South America joined our group. They were very pleasant. They new English and Spanish, so we had a lot of languages always going on. In Uyuni it is desert territory with a vast number of different things to see. It is one of the things that makes Bolivia famous. We saw an island of cacti, gysers, salt lakes, other mineral lakes, and so many things.
Now, the down side is that it is about 300 feet above Cochabamba, which is my altitude limit I think. Cochabamba is 8,500 feet. At that altitude, it was hard to breath well which also affected my sleep. Cochabamba has spoiled me with all it offers. I have no idea how I will handle going back to the altitude of 880 feet. At least, I have a while before that happens.
