Necessities

My time here in Bolivia had made me reevaluate what is a necessity and what is luxuries.  When I came here, I did not know if I would have a washer or dryer for my clothes.  I was prepared to learn how to wash your clothes by hand well.  However, everywhere I have stayed they have had a washer.  It may not be a necessity, but it sure makes life a whole lot easier.  However, there are almost no dryers.  I have learned that it is not so bad to have your clothes air dried.  I don't actually need dryer sheets. That is just a luxury.  I do miss it sometimes, but I have adjusted.  Just like not having cable or access to your tv shows is not the end of the world.
I am so lucky that God sent me somewhere where I have electricity and the availability to Netflix.  I would prefer Pureflix, but they don't provide outside of the states.  I am blessed to live in such a comfortable city.  I grateful that I don't have to drive for two years, but still have access to public transportation when it is needed.  It is not a necessity to have all the comforts that I have grown up with. I am so blessed that God opened my eyes to how spoiled I was and gave me the ability to recognize what I do have here and to be thankful.
I am so grateful that I received my sister and parent's christmas present to me, so I have something to open on Christmas.  It is funny how the little things can affect you.  I miss being able to watch my Christmas movies, bake homemade candies, or see my family and friends at Christmas.  However, God has provided people here who are going through the same feelings and emotions.  We get to be each others family.  I am lucky to make such friends. One of my closest goes back home to Germany tomorrow.  I will miss Jenny terribly, but keep her in your prayers.
fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.  Phillippians 2:2-4
