Lake Titikaka

I had a long weekend in La Paz because the teachers at the international school in Cochabamba had a break.  We spent a couple of days in La Paz mostly visiting the places I went last month, but then we spent a couple days at Lake Titicaca.  It is the highest nagivable lake in the world.  It is in the La Paz region and has a lot of Inca history.  We traveled to Copacabana and spent the night, then the next morning we took a two and a half hour boat ride on the lake to Isla Del Sol, which is next to Isla de la Luna.
The history is that the sun and the moon were born from those islands, so they hold a lot of power.  Virgins were held on Isla de la Luna (island of the moon), not to be touched.  Now, there are three small villages that live on Isla de la Sol (island of the sun).  We spent awhile with a tour guide, then we hiked to the opposite end of the island.  The top of the island is over 13,000 feet.  The altitude did affect me, but I live at over 8,000 feet so not as much as a new arrival.  However, I noticed how it affected my lungs.  I got out of
breath so bad that my lungs and rib cage were sore for a few days making me run out of breath for no reason.  Everyone else seemed to have no trouble with the five mile hike.  For me it felt more like 10-15 miles.
It was a great trip that I enjoyed a lot because most of these people I have not spent that much time with, so I got to know them a lot better.  Plus, one had just arrived from the states a few days before the trip and then moved on to Sucre.  I am so grateful for the opportunities that God is providing me.

15 "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Ephesians 5:15-17
